The extraordinary MY NAME IS EMILY is a triumph of defiance and determination. That’s because Simon Fitzmaurice, the director of this tender look at an Irish teenager’s struggle to come to grips with her father’s mental illness, suffers from Lou Gehrig’s disease. He was diagnosed in 2008 and given four years to live. Fitzmaurice is paralyzed and wrote the script and directed using eye-gaze technology to communicate. This is a film all about seizing the day.
“A remarkable feat of filmmaking, and it lingers long in the memory as an uplifting hymn to life and all it’s possibilities.” – Irish Examiner
“Life-affirming and truly extraordinary.” – Film Ireland
“A beautiful film of stunning imagery and even more poignant poetry.” – Under The Radar
