Don’t miss the pre-recorded interview with the director Mona Zandi Haghighi and the lead actress Fatemeh Motamed Arya following the film end credits!

Mona Zandi Haghighi is an Iranian filmmaker who focuses on contemporary social issues within Persian culture.   Based on a true story that is unfamiliar and perhaps unnatural for people in the West, it shares universal values that most of us can connect with.

“Beyond being an entertaining experience, AFRICAN VIOLET affirms that some challenges of womanhood and motherhood are universal, and offers a fascinating peek into Iranian culture and simple home life.” – Leslie Combemale, AWFJ Women on Film

“Each of the central three characters feel authentic, with a shared history and connections to a wider community that seem in no way contrived.   A colourful jewel of a film which is well worth seeking out.” – Fiona Underhill, JumpCut Online

“A compelling and quietly powerful film.” – Sandie Angulo Chen, AWFJ Women on Film

Language: Persian (English subtitles)
