Gabrielle is a 22-year-old musically gifted, but developmentally challenged woman. She sings in a Montreal choir with other disabled adults, where she meets and falls in love with the dashingly handsome Martin. What emerges in Louise Archambault’s sweet, unassuming and confidently directed film is a portrait of a young woman fighting, in her own way, for acceptance and independence.
The film stars a captivating Gabrielle Marion-Rivard who in real life has Williams Syndrome, as does the character she portrays.
“On the surface, it’s a simple love story….But Louise Archambault’s GABRIELLE is much more… a deeply affecting tale of difference, dignity and the healing power of song.” – T’Cha Dunlevy, Montreal Gazette
“Archambault’s handling of Gabrielle and Martin’s sexuality is one of the pic’s strong suits, presenting their desire with a refreshing, straightforward honesty.” – Jay Weissberg, Variety
“An emotionally raw yet uplifting drama.” – Jamie Rich, Oregonian
